Artwork guidelines

Good artwork is the main thing that keeps an order on schedule. If your file meets the points below, it can go straight to production; if not, we will have to come back to you first.

The essentials

  • File type: PDF, one page per side, at the finished size plus bleed.
  • Bleed: 3mm on every edge for anything that prints to the edge. Larger items such as banners may need more – check the product page.
  • Safe zone: keep text and logos at least 3–5mm inside the trim line.
  • Colour: CMYK. RGB files will be converted and bright colours may shift.
  • Resolution: images at 300dpi at the size they will print. Large-format work can be lower.
  • Fonts: embedded or converted to outlines.

Product-specific notes

Folded items such as brochures need panels laid out in the right order. Booklets need a page count divisible by four for saddle stitching. NCR books need space left for numbering. Pull-up banners should keep key content out of the bottom section that sits inside the base.

For clothing printed with DTF, send a transparent PNG or a vector file at the print size.

Detailed guides

If your file is not ready

We can fix small problems or build the artwork for you as design work at an extra cost. Lead times start only once the artwork is approved, so sort out the file early if you have a deadline. See graphic design for print.

How to order your printing: set up the item in the shop and the price updates as you change the options. Attach your artwork at checkout – or ask for design help, which is charged separately. Payment is by Yoco card payment or EFT, in full for orders under R5,000 and with a 65% deposit from R5,000 up. When it is ready, pick it up at our Rivonia shop on a weekday between 8:30 AM and 5:00 PM, or have it couriered to you at a quoted cost.

Frequently asked questions

Can I send a Word document?
A PDF is strongly preferred because Word files can change layout on a different computer. If you only have Word, export to PDF, or ask for design help to prepare it.
Why do I need bleed?
Cutting has a small tolerance. Bleed extends the background past the trim so no thin white edge appears after cutting.
Will you check my file?
Yes, files are checked before printing. Checks catch technical problems, but spelling and content remain your responsibility.
What if my logo is a low-resolution JPEG?
It may print blurry or with jagged edges, especially at larger sizes. Ask whoever designed the logo for a vector version (AI, EPS, SVG or PDF), or ask us to redraw it as design work.
